Their members include the leader, Shiitake (シイタケ?), his Chamblemon partner, as well as Shimeji (シメジ?) and Eringi (エリンギ?), and their Mushmon partners. Shortly after the birth of Shiitake's second partner RedVegiemon, they become the Nirinso Defense Force (ニリンソウ防衛隊 Nirinsō Bōei-tai?) to defend Nirinso Shelter. Shiitake's e-Pulse is yellow.

On May 18, 2050, the Kinoko Gang ambushes Tomoro Tenma and Gekkomon outside the boy's house. Chamblemon, Shiitake's original partner Digimon, is able to drain Gekkomon's e-Pulse, but is stopped by the intervention of Reina Sakuya, Wolvermon, Makoto Kuonji, and Chiropmon. Overhearing Kyo Sawashiro's name, the trio realizes Reina's team are the Glowing Dawn and flee in panic. Glowing Dawn They later come across Hyemon Pierce and engage it, but the Digimon attacks Shiitake and deletes Chamblemon. The next day, Tomoro and Gekkomon run into the Kinoko Gang and learn from the grieving Shiitake about the encounter, helping him to get a lead on Hyemon. Pierce's attack on the Kinoko Gang also causes its bounty to be increased. Facing Mirrors

Afterwards, the Kinoko Gang was expelled from the bay area and arrived at the mountains where they are unable to hunt weak Digimon. At some point Shiitake obtained a new Sapotama, and grew bitter of the Glowing Dawn. One day, while giving a lift to the Glowing Dawn, Yoshimura accidentally hits a rock and causes it to almost fall on the Kinoko Gang. Shiitake's desire for revenge causes RedVegiemon's birth. The group follows Yoshimura's car to the Nirinso Shelter, and while Shiitake initially plots to sell the In-Training Digimon residing there, RedVegiemon coerces into a plot to Cold Heart Glowing Dawn in front of their Digimon. One by one, the Kinoko Gang lures Chiropmon and Pristimon while RedVegiemon immobilizes them. When Shimeji's Mushmon accidentally poisons him, RedVegiemon withholds the antidote before verifying Gekkomon is immobilized, shocking Shiitake. Shiitake and Eringi bring Tomoro to RedVegiemon. When the Nirinso residents stand up to RedVegiemon, Shimeji and Eringi plead with Shiitake to put a stop to the plan. RedVegiemon ignores Shiitake's plea and threatens to Cold Heart Shimeji and Eringi if he doesn't torture the other Digimon with RedVegiemon's torn arm. Poyomon stops Shiitake, and its courage against RedVegiemon motivates the other In-Training Digimon to fight along. The In-Training Digimon's efforts result in Gekkomon receiving an antidote and defeating RedVegiemon. After the rest of Glowing Dawn arrives, Shiitake decides to disband the Kinoko Gang and form the Nirinso Defense Force, and Kyo gives them a chance to restart. Little Courage

The Nirinso Defense Force is later alerted after Bommon reacts to Haruomi Sone's presence and rush to follow them. They watch Haruomi and Commandramon's reunion and act as commentators on Commandramon and Elizamon's cooking showdown, fighting over the microphone. The Taste of Guilt

Due to the degeneration happening offscreen, it is uncertain which of Burgamon and Burpmon degenerated to Nyokimon and YukimiBotamon.
