Prior to the Kano Island Vanishing incident of October 5, 2029, the World Union went by the Urban Protocol Company.[citation needed] They researched alternative energy sources and recruited test subjects like Klay Arslan from around the world, leading to the development of e-Pulse and Sapotamas while also allowing the organization to discover Digimon.[please confirm]
The World Union is run by Chairman Wong, who uses the Five Stars as his top enforcers.[citation needed] The Ministry of Civil Protection and the Cleaner system itself fundamentally exist in order to launder the World Union's image and protect their massive concentration of wealth and power.[please confirm] The World Union's influence is also projected via numerous subsidiaries like Tamamori Logistics and Mitsutama Bank.
In 2039, a representative of the World Union invited Kyo Sawashiro to join the Five Stars in response to Cougarmon's first digivolution into Murasamemon. A New Family
