Digimon Liberator
Zenith was one of the beta tester's during Digimon Liberator's beta. Welcome to LACUNA At some point, he joined the game's debug team. RAID ON THE WORLD (Part 2) He chose Vemmon as his partner as he liked that it was strong and emotionless. DEBUG.11-2 RODS FROM GOD Their relationship is purely transactional. Zenith uses his skill to provide Vemmon with strong opponents, and Vemmon brings the victories. DEBUG.11-1 Zenith DEBUG.11-2 RODS FROM GOD Their relationship causes friction with the rest of the debug team. DEBUG.11-2 RODS FROM GOD
Zenith watched the recordings of previous Digimon World Championships, and becomes fixated on on one player in particular — Owen Dreadnought. Owen had a look on his face Zenith had never seen before, the face of a man who was looking for something new and that no battle seemed to satisfy him. Owen won the tournament three years in a row, Zenith watching each one, and yet Owen never seemed to be satisfied. Zenith realizes he felt the same way as Owen — and further realizes that this was why he had become so obsessed with him. DEBUG.11-1 Zenith
Some time before the public launch, Zenith arrives at Cool Boy's office unannounced. Cool Boy tells Zenith he was busy, though Zenith tells him to stop sounding like an overworked manager. Cool Boy just ignores him, and asks him if it was really okay for the challenger for the upcoming World Championship match to be loafing around. Zenith says he wasn't loafing around, and had actually come for a reason — there was no one for him to test his skills against today, and so he wanted to duel against Cool Boy.
Cool Boy refuses, disappointing Zenith. Cool Boy thanks Zenith for being a debugger, as not only is he talented at it — he is also very popular, which meant his announcement of being part of Liberator caused a lot of pre-registrations. He also enjoyed having the opinion of a professional gamer. Once he's done praising him, he says that Zenith can't use up his time because he's grateful for what he does — and says he can't duel Zenith because he's isn't a player. Zenith doubts this, and says he knows Cool Boy is strong. He asks again, saying that though he knows he can beat Owen, he still wants to make sure he is fully prepared. Cool Boy says that as he's one of the game's developers, he can't take sides and help Zenith prepare, since that would show bias — and should anyone find out, it would also damage Zenith's reputation. Zenith still refuses to give up though, and says he doesn't care about his reputation, he just wants to duel Cool Boy. As Cool Boy looks at Zenith, he is unable to figure out what Zenith's real reason for wanting to duel him was — this not being anything new, as he could never get a read on Zenith, who barely seemed like a human to Cool Boy in the first place. Zenith summons Vemmon, and says how it was bored. Cool Boy says he's surprised, as he thought Zenith just saw Liberator as a game — with Zenith saying that's right, but that every player of every game recognizes the individuality of NPCs whilst still seeing them as part of a game. As Cool Boy thinks about Zenith's non existent relationship with Vemmon, Zenith having chosen it because it was strong and emotionless, Zenith again asks for just one duel. Cool Boy refuses, and leaves — saying he had another meeting to attend.
A while later, whilst hanging out in a stadium inside Jewel, Zenith gets an email from saying to meet in the hall — with Zenith assuming it had come from Cool Boy and that he had changed his mind. Instead, the meeting was with a video calling Omekamon. It says Cool Boy was too busy, with Zenith saying he thought Cool Boy would agree since it'd give him a break from being overworked. He asks why Omekamon called him over, with Omekamon saying he would duel against Zenith in Cool Boy's place. It summons an NPC in front of Zenith, and says that it'll duel Zenith using Cool Boy's deck and would use "Cool Boy's thought processes". Zenith asks if this was meant to act as a "good substitute", though Omekamon says no and that if he wins — he shouldn't count it as him defeating Cool Boy. Though Zenith's goal was to duel Cool Boy, he accepts the duel against Omekamon — even though he knows duelling Cool Boy's proxy wouldn't be enjoyable. He figures it'd probably still be a tough duel, and thought it may still help him defeat Owen. DEBUG.11-1 Zenith
Knowing Zenith's hunger to duel a strong opponent, Omekamon initially plays up the NPC's skill but eventually admits that the NPC couldn't replicate Cool Boy's skill. Even after Omekamon takes control from the NPC, the duel's outcome is a foregone conclusion and Zenith takes an easy win. Frustrated, Zenith politely thanks Omekamon for the duel, but continues to push for a real duel against Cool Boy. When Omekamon continues to demur that it would be inappropriate, Zenith gives up in disgust.
Putting that to the side, Omekamon remarks about the relationship it observed between Zenith and Vemmon. It considers confronting them over their relationship but backs down knowing how necessary Zenith's skills and popularity are to Cool Boy's plans. Frustrated in its own way, Omekamon merely advises Zenith not to disappoint Vemmon, while Zenith counters that they should watch as he becomes the Champion.
Omekamon takes his leave, leaving Zenith with his thoughts. Having given up on proving himself against Cool Boy, Zenith sets his sights on Owen. DEBUG.11-2 RODS FROM GOD
Zenith reaches the final of the [Championship, and which he finds himself duelling against Owen in the final. Zenith wins. Welcome to LACUNA
After the duel, Zenith is interviewed. He states his happiness at winning the duel and declares his next goal is to become the best Digimon Liberator player in the World. He tells everyone he had been one of the beta testers for the game and now that the game had officially released the next tournament would take place on it. Welcome to LACUNA
Zenith wasn't happy with the win though. He had sensed that Owen's mind was focused on something else during their duel, causing him to not bring his A game. This upset Zenith, not seeing it as a real win. This made him obsessed with getting a rematch so that he could defeat Owen when he was at his best. DEBUG.11-3 Xeno -BEGINS-
Unchained approaches Zenith, and asks for his help in their plan. Zenith agrees, under the condition that Unchained would get him a rematch on the grandest stage with Owen. Unchained agrees, and Zenith gives Vemmon to Unchained. Unchained uses its data on Maquinamon, clones them (having fifty total) and has them cause trouble all over LACUNA for months. DEBUG.11-3 Xeno -BEGINS-
More than half a year after tournament, a large amount of black holes open up in Jewel. Unchained tells Cool Boy that they predicted said issue could cause LACUNA to be destroyed. The admins log out all regular players — though allow staff and debug team members to remain logged in. Zenith was logged in at the time, with the admins sending a notification for logged in debug members to go to the Garden. Once there, they were all told to go look for NPC Sam the Clown as it was controlling the Imperialdramon inside the black holes. This was all of part of Unchained's plan, with Unchained being responsible for the Imperialdramon.
The logged in debug team members all travel to Jewel, with Zenith claiming everything would be fine since he was there. He is shocked when Owen tells him he can't do it on his own since that doesn't sound like the Owen he knows. He further annoys Owen by reminding him he was the former Champion, with Zenith being the current Champion. Zenith insists the two of them will settle their rivalry later, and that for now they needed to focus on the issue at hand. He splits the debug team members into two, one to go deal with the Imperialdramon and one to go look for Sam the Clown.
Shortly afterwards, Zenith protects Owen from an Imperialdramon's attack — with Owen confused as to why his rival would do such a thing. As Zenith's data corrupts, he says he wouldn't want anything to happen to him and to stop looking so serious — they'll see each other again soon. He wonders what would happen if he were to duel with a now corrupted account, though instead of duelling an Imperialdramon to find out — logs outs. RAID ON THE WORLD (Part 2)
Unchained transfers Zenith's damaged data to Cross Connectia. DEBUG.11-3 Xeno -BEGINS- He is considered to have gone missing. THE SKY FALL (Part 2)
Unchained later traps Cool Boy inside the game as well. Yao Qinglan manages to track both of them down to Cross Connectia, and sends some debug team members to go and get Zenith's data and Cool Boy. THE SKY FALL (Part 2)
Unchained transfers a furious Zenith from Cross Connectia to the Void. Unchained offers to talk and make up, with Zenith instead wanting to lunge at Unchained — unable to as his arm and eye data were corrupted. Unable to do much, Zenith just asks Unchained if they have ever heard of gyudon. Unchained knows what it is, though points out how they're unable to eat it as they aren't human. He explains why he had brought it up: Unchained was supposed to be like gyudon — quick and simple. He asks why Unchained had involved Owen, Unchained finally realizing why Zenith was mad. Unchained explains that the data of the BlackImperialdramon was taken from the Digital World, then transferred to LACUNA via Cross Connectia. Because of this, there was no way to control them — and they weren't the type of Digimon that would follow instructions.
They discuss how Zenith had agreed to help Unchained with their plan. Unchained doesn't understand why Zenith was so focused on Owen in particular, thinking that any member of the debug team could take his place, even suggesting Cool Boy — but no, Zenith was only interested in Owen. He compares Cool Boy to Unchained, saying they're the same — wasting their power as they lacked self interest, caring too much about others. Bored of the conversation, Unchained says how Zenith makes their life harder, and how they could only put up with so much of Zenith's nonsense. Zenith though, just reiterates that the only thing he cares about is the rematch. Unchained summons an NPC, a confused Zenith pointing out he was be unable to duel it in his current state. Unchained instead says that it was a gift, and has the NPC merge with Zenith's body. The NPC's parts replaced the damaged parts of Zenith's body, Zenith now looking half man half NPC. Zenith now "fixed", Unchained says they will fulfil their promise — and that Zenith would get his rematch.
Unchained explains their plan: they would host an event, which would act as the end of Liberator's main storyline — the goal being to harvest player data. Zenith would act as "Xeno", a supposed NPC, and would battle players. If Owen was as good as Zenith said he was, a rematch would be inevitable — since Owen would want to stop Unchained and Xeno as a member of the debug team. Hearing this, Zenith's mood switches from furious to delighted — he didn't even care that the plan had a chance of killing him. Unchained gives him back his D-STORAGE, Vemmon now returned to Zenith — Unchained pointing out that Zenith needed Vemmon, since the rematch required his Vemmon deck. Thankful for what Unchained had done, he promises he would make it up to Unchained.
Unchained opens a portal, with the three of them going through it. As they travel through it, Vemmon analyzes the situation and realizes what they were doing was wrong — but decided it didn't care as it wanted to help fulfil Zenith's wish. DEBUG.11-3 Xeno -BEGINS-
After Unchained takes over Digimon Liberator, they prevent players from logging out and force them all to start a quest where they duel Maquinamon possessed NPC. Each win gives a player a point, and those who gain a certain amount points qualify for the second round. Once a certain amount of players progress to the said round, they have to duel against "Xeno" with the goal being to prove that the outsiders (players) are worthy of ruling LACUNA.
