A group of crows are releasing captive birds throughout the city, including Mika's. The gang tracks down the missing bird.

Summary

A man is in his room with a bunch of caged birds and a Hologram Ghost shows up at his window and it releases the caged birds. Mika is also attacked by crows, who free her pet bird Chihoru.

Hiro and Gammamon are on their way to the dorm. While Gammamon is eating chocolate, he drops a couple and a crow eats them from him, to his dismay. Ruli then makes the others meet to discuss the bird issues. Once the group hears the news about a drone-like object that led to the murder of crows, they suspect that it must be the work of a Digimon. Jellymon is too scared to investigate, so Kiyoshiro steps in for her, and Ruli suggests they start tomorrow: she and Hiro start class while Kiyoshiro, giving him the nickname "Higacchi", takes the afternoon shift at the dorms since he already has a master's degree from America as he is exempt from class.

Meanwhile, the man appears to be working with the birds but doesn't know that the silhouetted figure is a Digimon, who plans to free all birds and create a utopia.

The group investigates the attacks and they work out that the man must be connected to the attacks because of posts on social media. Kiyoshiro realizes that the pattern of the attacks is the Fibonacci sequence, which takes the shape of a spiral like an ammonite if the locations on a map are connected. The team then works out when the next attack will come and they encounter the man from earlier, with a Digimon named Crowmon, who controls the darkness.

As the team confronts Crowmon, the Digimon are under attack while struggling against an Ultimate level. Gammamon is once again motivated by chocolate and wishes he could fly before he Digivolves into KausGammamon to make his wish come true. The others witness his new Digivolution and he manages to defeat Crowmon, who flies away.

After the fight, Crowmon leads the birds to the Golden City and Angoramon explains the caged bird yearns to be free while the free bird yearns for friends. While the other birds are reunited to their owners, Mika is also reunited with Chihoru.
